Caught on a Bike in SLC: Noble Sage Williamson

Noble Sage Williamson is perhaps one of the most infectiously happy people in Salt Lake and in the bike community. At the age of 16 Noble has a strong grasp on why bicycles are important as a mode of transportation. Read more about Noble and his great looking IRO.

Name: Noble Sage Williamson

Age: 16

Hometown: Salt Lake City

High School: West High. I like going to high school there because of the diversity A lot of people who go to other schools are kind of scared of the diversity we have.

Favorite restaurant: Squatters. My biggest regret is that I can't go there alone.

Number of bikes you own: Just one, my IRO Mark V. I had a custom Strong steel frame road bike but I wrecked it in November going down Terrace Hills. I took a corner to fast and ended up in someones front lawn.

Been riding a bike since: Well, I didn't learn how to ride a bike till 6th grade. My older sister came home fro the 1st day of ninth grade and told me about this guy who had long hair and a brakeless bike. Just as she was telling me the story he passed around the corner and I saw him. That dude with the fixed gear is Dima Hurdult (a well known urban cyclists in Salt Lake). Kind of a strange role model, but he really inspired me.

Favorite bike lane: The sharrows on 800 East, I like them a lot and the bike signal too. The bike/pedestrian signal on 1500 E is also pretty great.

Worst bike lane: Emigration Canyon. Well, it isn't that bad, but it is bad enough you don't want to ride in it. There are always rocks in it from gravel driveways.

Favorite bike shop: Cyclesmith -- those guys take care of me.

Favorite bike accessory: A Brooks saddle, of course.

Advice for new cyclists: Don't listen to drivers. I've been trying to get my girlfriend into cycling more and the drivers are what psych her out the most.

Hopes and dreams for cycling in Salt Lake City: I would like to see Salt lake keep stepping it up. I want people to start thinking cycling is awesome.
