300 East Cycle Track is done, and tomorrow's opening festivities are not to be missed

We've been writing about the progress of the 300 East Cycle Track for a few months now, here and there, snapping pictures of you riding on the city's (and state's) first protected on-road bikeway. We love it, it seems that most people who are using it and who live along the street support it as well. Now the Salt Lake City Transportation Division wants to get your ideas, feedback, and support with two great public events tomorrow to mark the official opening of the cycle track project.

Tomorrow, July 26th, at 10:30 am at Taufer Park (300 East 700 South), Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker along with Transportation Division Director Robin Hutcheson, Bicycle Ped Coordinator Becka Roolf, representatives from the Salt Lake City REI, and many more city people and other officials will be on hand for a press event. Although it is during the workday, we'd love to have you out at this event to show your support and enjoy an official opening of a monumental step forward in Salt Lake's thinking and planning for bicycles as transportation.

Look out for these signs along 300 East,
and come visit City staff to take a survey.
Also tomorrow, 7/26, from 4 to 7 pm at the intersection of 300 East & 700 South near Taufer Park will be a slightly less formal, very fun, interactive, and inclusive public open house for the cycle track, and especially the survey that the Division and University of Utah Masters student Will Becker have designed. The City wishes to get your feedback on this particular project, how you use it, how it could be improved or changed in anyway, and how you think cycle tracks and paint-buffered bike lanes can be used more effectively in Salt Lake City. Please come for free drinks (juice, gatorade, and water), swag from REI-Salt Lake City, and to take the City's cycle track survey.

So, here's what is important: Come at 10:30 am and between 4 & 7 pm tomorrow for great opening day events for the 300 East Cycle Track project. Please take the cycle track survey. Ride safe, tell all your friends to participate and make this the most thorough survey of all bicyclists as possible. You're amazing. Keep riding and we'll try to keep up with you.
