A criterium bike race is one in which racers do laps on the same circuit for a determined amount of time (longer for more advanced and higher categorized riders) in an effort to be the first to cross the line. Criteriums are some of the most spectator-friendly and action-packed bike races because they are on such a small circuit (and usually a closed course) that allows multiple chances and locations to catch the action.

Utah is famous for its plethora of crit races, from the three-a-week Crit Series races at Rocky Mountain Raceways, Drivers License Division, Emigration Canyon, and Saltair, to the Downtown Crit at Pioneer Park (which took place last Saturday).

This Saturday, Cyclesmith will present the annual Sugar House Criterium race, which will take place in Sugar House Park (1500 East 2100 South, SLC). It's as much fun for spectators as it is for the racers. The race is free to spectators, so enjoy a day in the park with the family and cheer on your favorites (or make some up in the middle of the race).

From race organizers:  Held in Sugar House Park, this up and down course has been a racer favorite for years. Bring the entire family and enjoy some of Utah's best crit racing in one of Salt Lake's most beautiful parks.
