  1. I know this is a bit late and seeing as this is a site surrounding mostly around city /commute biking, I have to voice my opinion about crit. rides... They are DAMAGING to the cause of sharing the road policies. Disrupting traffic with crowds of people riding bikes is hardly a way of increasing awareness for road bikers and if anything it just pisses off more people about bikes being in the roads. I hardly ever road ride due to the lack of respect that some, not all, motorists have for cyclists. The two things that crit rides do is show bikers an amazing time and show vehicle owners a very annoying/shitty time. How about before you hold the next crit, you do some research as to if any good is being done by these "demonstrations" before you possibly instigate any future incidents against car owners and those who choose to commute via bike. This is coming from someone who has had parents cross the country multiple times via bike and has had seen the negative impacts of these crit rides.

  2. @0d0fa56de1fcb8e97c59582f00a5fca2 : We've seen a few damaging rides here in slc, especially back in the day when bike infrastructure was less impressive. But if by "crit rides" you are referring to critical mass type rides, we make it a point to use critical mass rides to promote sharing the road. We follow traffic laws, stay in bike lanes, use lights and bells, and don't let pointless confrontations go down between cars and cyclists. We know what battles we have to fight in this li'l town and are working every day to make these rides positive for everyone. You'll have to join us one day, see if you still think they are damaging after you've been part of one here.
