Emotions were high as Transportation Division employees and friends of director Tim Harpst gathered Wednesday afternoon to bid adieu to the director who lead and supported some of the most progressive transportation planning, especially for bicycles, in Salt Lake City's history. Harpst, who is succeeded by now-director Robin Hutcheson, formerly of Fehr & Peers consultants. Director Harpst's leadership and friendship toward and in behalf of all those around him will be greatly appreciated by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Harpst, though retiring from the public sector, will likely continue to work in transportation planning and engineering from the private sector as a consultant and expert in the field. Harpst, along with Hutcheson, will be leading a joint-lecture at tomorrow's ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) Conference on the University of Utah campus, from 4:00 - 4:45 PM.
What does this mean for the city?
