Prohibited On Sidewalk

An editorial in tomorrow's City Weekly is about the writer's frustration with the downtown 'No Bicycles on Sidewalks' law: How he got a ticket and why he's asking the judge to find him guilty. Check out the article here, and let us know what you think below!

  1. Bicycles should be on the road. If cyclists are vehicles, they should stay off the sidewalks. Most importantly, cyclists shouldn't ride off sidewalks onto crosswalks - this is dangerous for cars making legal turns that are just watching for slower moving peds. Also, what would be really nice is if the Bike Police would follow this ordinance.

  2. I ride on the road myself, but what do we do about the 7 year old girl or the 70 year old man? As we wean cyclists off the sidewalks we have to be providing safe and obvious alternative infrastructure. SLC has been doing great in that regard, but we still have a ways to go. Sidewalk to crosswalk traffic is absolutely terrifying. I almost hit a cyclist once when I was turning left on my bike, he popped out onto the crosswalk from the sidewalk and I almost didn't see him in time.

  3.  Only sidewalk bikes allowed on the sidewalk.  Was this man riding a sidewalk bike?
