The city's first round of shared lane markings were installed recently,
on roads such as 17th South and 13th South.

The new shared lane markings, or sharrows, differ from the green shared lanes present on South Temple, 200 South, and Main Street, in that only the bike symbol and double-arrow combination is painted on the road surface.

Salt Lake City DOT has announced that in this season alone, they will install sharrows on the following streets:

- South Temple (from 300 E to Virgina Street, to close a massive gap on this road between downtown and the Univeristy)

- 800 E (between South Temple and Ramona Avenue (~1900 S) in order to give this quiet and highly used bike thoroughfare some legitimacy as a recommended route)

- 1700 S (between Main Street and State Street, and other points east, to close a critical gap between bike lanes and routes that extend more than two miles each direction from this spot)

-Alta Street / Wolcott Street (between 11th Avenue and 1st South in an effort to provide a great on-street route between the Upper Avenues and the University by way of Federal Heights)

Check out already-installed sharrows on 1700 South between Main and State, and between 900 E and 1500 E. Rumor has it 1300 South has sharrows in the westbound lane from 1300 E, in order to give bicyclists greater visibility and security riding in the center of the lane on the hill that reaches 17% in some places.
