UPDATED: Chevron Pipeline Company says work on pipeline will affect Bonneville Shoreline Trail users, closures for two days

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail will be closed near the University
campus beginning today, closure to last two days
As part of a routine maintenance schedule, the Chevron Pipeline Company (responsible for two crude oil spills near Red Butte Garden in recent years) has announced that they will be doing excavation on parts of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail near the University of Utah campus. According to an email from CPC associate land representative Melissa Horiuchi, digging and repair will take place in two locations this week: between the Hospital Complex and Dry Creek; and between Red Butte Creek and Wakara Way. From the same email, CPC announced:

"Chevron Pipe Line (CPL) will be conducting maintenance work on the pipeline near [the Hospital Complex and Dry Creek] as noted above. This work requires excavating a trench along the pipeline and temporarily placing the soil on the side of the trench. The trench will remain open for approximately 2 weeks [beginning August 8th] while testing is being performed on the pipeline. Although Chevron Pipe Line will have crews traveling to this site several times while the trench is open, the crews will not be present every day. CPL will take necessary precautions to keep trail users out of the dig site during this time. After the testing is complete the trench will be back filled and the surface restored to its existing condition."

Further details came a few days later about another section that will have open-trench maintenance, and will also be closed completely for two days:

The trench will remain open for approximately 2 days while an inspection is being performed on the pipeline. During this time, the section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail between Red Butte Creek and Wakara Way will be closed. Trail users will be detoured to Chipeta Way. See the attached map for more details.
