Portland, Oregon started a posting where the bicycling community would share their close calls on bicycles in effort to bring awareness to the dangers that cyclists face daily in their community.
Salt Lake City, Utah cyclists your voice, too, needs to be heard. Please share your story in the comments are of this posting.
In your comment please include:
* The nearest cross streets of your incident.
* A short description of what happened.
* What neighborhood you’re from. (ie downtown, liberty park, sugarhouse, west valley, etc.)
Once we compile enough of these close calls, we can send them onto the city officials in an official letter.
900 E. The road between 45th and 54th has an area where the shoulder goes away (around 50thS) and automobiles never yield their 3 ft.
ReplyDeleteWhat would really matter to me is seeing law-makers take initiative in changing DMV/Licensing requirements to include a better emphasis on bicycle laws; after all it could save MANY from injury or DEATH.
I recently shared cyclist laws with a co-worker who was shocked to say the least. Having shared this information her frustration went down while her awareness went up; now she understands what rules cyclist have. Cyclist understand more roadway rules; why can't automobile drivers do the same for us; more emphasis on cyclist rules and laws in UTAH DRIVERS LICENSES exams and literature.
Watch drivers pulling into angled parking. 300 South in the downtown area is a good example. My buddy rammed into the front end of an Izuzu Rodeo that turned right in front of her. I swerved to avoid the back of him. It's my plan not to pass on the right.
