Bicycle Collective wants your old bikes, hosts bike drive

Since it was such an excellent summer for bicycling in the City and the dry weather came earlier than usually in the spring, the Bicycle Collective is a bit low on bicycles to sell. Yesterday evening, while at the Collective, there were only two road bikes on the racks, with space enough for twenty more before the mountain bike section began.

During the Bike Collective's "Bike Drive", volunteers and staff will pick up your unused bicycles or you can drop them off at the main location at 2312 S West Temple. From the Collective's Clay Dean-Perry:
"We need bikes! Let us get those dust covered bicycles out of your garage and into the hands of someone who needs a simple and cheap form of transportation. The Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We train volunteers to refurbish your old bike and then we find a local goodwill organization to which to donate it. For example, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in SLC gives bicycles refurbished by the SLC Bicycle Collective to refugees in need of affordable transportation.
"We also offer Earn-a-Bike classes through our community bike shop where kids learn how to rebuild a bike from scratch, which they keep along with a helmet and a lock."

Did you know that most of the bicycles donated to the Collective are donated right back into the hands of the needy and destitute after they're whipped into working condition by volunteers? Please donate during this bike drive and help someone get around.
