Prolific and world-famous author Stephen Covey, a native of Utah and professor at Brigham Young University, died this week after succumbing to injuries sustained in a bicycling accident earlier this year.

Covey, 79, was most recognized for his '7 Habits' books and accompanying motivational speeches and tours. Official reports say that Covey's death was caused by "residual effects" from a bicycling accident in April. Once named on of Time Magazine's 25 Most Influential People, Covey left a legacy to his family, friends, and all those he influenced. Rather than treat this like an obituary which has been seen in numerous news outlets, let's focus on the positive conclusion to Mr. Covey's life. Stephen was 79 when he had his life-threatening bike accident. Cheers to him for continuing to ride even in the later stages of his life.

In April, Covey was "riding his bike downhill near 2700 Foothill Drive in Provo, Utah just after 8 pm when he lost control of his bike," said Provo Police Sargent Mathew Siufanua. "He tried to turn and just lost control and fell. Some reports highlight multiple times the fact that Covey was wearing a helmet when the accident happened even though he had a "giant goose egg" on his head. Others report that Covey's helmet slid backward or forward on his head and did not protect him completely from injury. Covey was unconscious when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Following months of treatment and observation in a hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Covey succumbed to the injuries from his accident. Thank you for inspiring millions, Mr. Covey, and thank you for riding your bike.
