More pictures and info about tonight's lecture after the break.
As part of the weekend's bike festivities, Joe Kurmaskie, Mayor Becker, and thirty others took a leisurely police-escorted ride through the city. Both Kurmaskie and Becker spoke before the ride started, emphasizing ambassadorship, safety, obedience to laws, and fun on bikes. Both Kurmaskie and Becker agreed that in order to further bicycling as a legitimate form of transportation, bicyclists need to obey traffic laws and make respect between cars and bikes a two-way street.

The ride left from Library Square and headed north on 300 East. Then, riders headed east on 200 South (under police escort the whole time). Turning right on 800 East, the ride went south till 800 South. Taking 800 South west to 300 East again, the ride ended where it began. Music and PA system were provided by Zed Bailey.
Kurmaskie will have a very entertaining lecture on Monday evening, June 4th, 7 pm, in the Main Library auditorium. The auditorium is just inside the SE door of the main library branch (400 S 200 E) in Salt Lake City near the "bike rack" bike rack. Kurmaskie, a contributor to Bicycling Magazine, Details, Men's Journal, AP, Midwest Bike, and the SF Chronicle, has also written several book about his bike tours and adventures throughout the years. A well-respected voice in the bicycling world, the event with the "Metal Cowboy" is sure to entertain.
From the City Library website,
"Most cowboys prefer the saddle and steed when they take to the wide-open spaces, but Joe Kurmaskie, the "Metal Cowboy," is a bicycle buckaroo. Kurmaskie is an accomplished journalist and bicycle advocate who tours the glove with little more than two wheels beneath him."
Contact information can be found at 801.524.8200
Event can also be found on the SaltCycle calendar.
