City announces Jordan River Trail connection press event (6/7)

A key connection between the Jordan River Trail (which previously ended at Redwood Rd & 1800 N) and the Legacy Parkway Trail in Davis County was constructed and completed this January. An integral part of the inter-county trail system and a very, very important link between Salt Lake City and all points north, the connection, a one mile section between the Davis County line and Redwood Road & 1800 N, makes possible a continuous and completely "road-free" route from Roy, in Weber County, to North Temple Street in Salt Lake City. A map of the 40 mile route with link is included after the break.

SLC Transportation is planning a press event to celebrate the completion of this new one mile section of the Jordan River Trail for Thursday, June 7th at 11:30 AM. The event is likely to take place at Redwood & 1800 N or along the newly completed section of the trail. We will provide additional information as available.

The connection between the old section of the JRT and the new one have been interrupted temporarily due to the construction of a new parking lot at the trailhead. Connection can be tricky when the dirt around the entrance to the trail is soft or wet. Construction of the lot will be completed soon.

Before construction of the new connection between the trails, one either traversed the trail right of way (then dirt single track interspersed with tire gouges from trucks and tractors), used the dangerous Redwood Road connection to West Bountiful/North Salt Lake, or stuck close to the mountains and used the Beck St connection and bike path. The newly completed section of the JRT allows type B and C bicyclists to enjoy the scenery of the wetlands and other "untouched" parts of the natural ecology of place.

Here is the map which you can use to connect to the JRT and have a completely off-street ride all the way to Roy.
