UTA's new safety campaign includes some added features for bicyclists

I boarded the FrontRunner train southbound for Salt Lake City Friday morning and noticed a different bike symbol on the outside of the bike car (the one nearest to the locomotive). The bike car has been around for a little while now, and I believe that it has been one of UTA's best investments on trains. Here is what the new and improved signage near the door of the train looks like. Pretty spiffy huh?

And bike-friendly it is, or rather, always has been. But this extra nod to cyclists and our needs was quite a nice thing to see. Thanks UTA. Then I got on board and immediately noticed these new hang tags at each entrance. They are visibly noticeable and caught my eye as soon as I walked in. A nice personal touch, and reminder so that you don't forget your bike. And they're free and yours to take! So I took one!

And this is what the nice and non-condescending PR folks at UTA ha to say to cyclists. A very nice touch indeed. So next time you're on the train, be sure to follow these simple guidelines to stay safe.

And if you'd like to see more simple and small gestures like this, let UTA know that you like what they're doing. Positive feedback from the public, though rare, goes a long way toward safer facilities and programs for bicyclists and others alike.
