2011 Chip Seal Schedule

In a recent Cycling Utah article, Salt Lake Bike/Ped Coordinator Becka Roolf explained the intricacies of chip seals and this year's chip seal schedule. SaltCycle, per DOT request, will host all updates on chip seals and slurry seals and other related projects for this year. Check back frequently as there will be more comments and updated posts about an infinite number of projects planned for this summer.


The following is the chip seal schedule for Summer 2011:



Several Salt Lake City streets will
receive chip seals this summer

If you can, please avoid these streets when chip sealing is in progress. Actual dates of work are weather dependent, so a complete schedule cannot be posted in advance.

Salt Lake City – June 2011

*Indiana Ave - 900 W to Redwood Rd (slurry sealed over the chips, about 2 weeks later)
*1700 S - 300 W to 900 W
*Brickyard Road - Richmond to 3300 S
*Claybourne Ave (2770 S) - Melbourne to 2000 E
*600 S - 800 W to 900 W
*4400 W - 700 S to California Ave
*4800 W - 1100 S to California Ave

And several short streets just south of I-80 off 5600 W


Salt Lake County - June 2011

Magna

*2100 S - 7200 W to 8000 W
*Parkway Blvd (2820 S) - 7200 W to 8000 W

*7200 W - SR-201 to 2100 S
*8000 W - 2100 S to SR-201

Kearns

*4715 S - 4000 W to 4800 W
*Sams Blvd (5215 S) - 4015 W to 4820 W

Millcreek

*Wasatch Blvd - 3300 S to 4850 S
*Millcreek Canyon Rd - 2820 E to 3275 E

  2. INDIANA AVE will be chip sealed today (6/15) and tomorrow (6/16) from 900 W to Redwood Rd. After the chips "set" for a couple weeks, it will be slurry-sealed over, likely on Sun. 6/26 (dependent on good weather). Combined, this is called a cape seal.

    Between the chip seal and the slurry seal, only the center line will be striped. The bike lanes will be gone for about two weeks, but when they come back they will be improved! The new bike lanes will be wider. There will also be some minor design changes -- a new lane drop at 900 W instead of 1000 W with a better bike lane design, and some shared lane markings at pinch points like the bridge over the Jordan River.
