I realized yesterday...
...at this exact place where I merge from a sharrow, to a bike lane, and then left into another sharrow that out of my four mile commute, 3.8 of it is in a bike lane of some sort. All but two months ago I could not have said that. SLC is doing it... we are doing it. We have made great steps forward in our "bicycle friendliness". We cyclists need to keep taking these strides forward by showing respect and gratitude; I know you are thinking "I will respect motorists when they respect me" and although that is part of it we need to be the bigger people.
Join up with our Critical Mass every last Friday of the month. Mass should not, and will no longer be about pissing drivers off, it is time to grow up. To be respected as road going vehicles we need to act like it. If a parade of cars did what some people did in Mass they would be arrested, plain and simple.
Educate. If someone is aggravated about you being in a sharrow, simply explain what the lane is in place for.
