This map shows the ride from my new residence in Kaysville, but is easily adaptable to starting from anywhere in Salt Lake and/or meeting up with the group along the way. As you may notice, it is quite a long ride, with some hairy hills right in the middle, but I know we can do it!! I did a ride similar to this one yesterday, from Kaysville to Liberty and Huntsville and back, and I could only imagine how more fun it would have been with friends.
At 93.8 miles, this is just short of a century without the registration and cost and organization of a real century ride. Some details about the ride:
-Moderate elevation gains and losses from Salt Lake through up to Morgan and East Canyon, only ascending 1,000 feet in the first two-thirds of the ride.
-The only challenging climbs are in Emigration Canyon just past East Canyon Resevoir, the summit being 7,500 feet (3,000 above Salt Lake City).
-Brakes are reccomended for the descent from Little Dell Resevoir, down Emigration Canyon to Salt Lake City.
So, if anyone has any suggestions or comments or 'aye's, post here or email me at longskull@gmail.com.
Thanks everyone!!!
I am interested. The route looks awesome. I also like the fact that its not quite a century but really close.. I will make a flier idea for it.
ReplyDeletethat's grueling and crazy and I'll be there :)
ReplyDeleteI wanna leave at about 4 am on a sunday.... sound good?
ReplyDeletei think meeting in the slc portion would be a good starting point with potential stop at toms for food! or.. somewhere.. :)

we just need a time and location. i think 4am is as insane as the ride, so i am down with dbr's idea'r. i also think it should start in slc, cause slc is a good starting/ending point for most.
so its up to you Tom to decide on the final times and start location - try to make it a place ez to find.
finally, can you give me a google map link to the entire route Tom?
i was talking to DBR tonight and we came to the conclusion that this ride should be your ride before you leave to the MTC or wherever they send missionaries these days... So maybe the first sunday or second sunday in september? Then we could ride later too....
ReplyDeletecan we do it on a saturday morning very very early? i'm just very about enjoying church on sundays. and i'll meet you fools at my house in kaysville. let's try for the 30th!
