I arrived after Mayor Becker had pulled in on his bicycle and surveyed the mansion with its immediate surroundings. I noticed immediately, what an amazing area! I never knew that area very well, and now I think it has great potential. Yes, the Interstate screams by, but it turns into a whisper when you are taking in all of the surroundings.
It was well attended. People were interested in this mansion. I saw several other bicyclist at the tour, greeting them in passing. My first suggestion is a bicycle rack so that I don't end up dropping my keys in the grate by the river, as that was where all the cyclist were locking up.
I don't really have any other suggestions, however I imagine as it develops, I will think of something.
.. and no there was no free food. To feed a group of that size would have costed hundreds of dollars.. it was packed with people. I did notice bathrooms with showers. A commuter feature?
Keep your eyes out in the various news sources, I think this may develop into a location that deals with something to do with bicycles as assuredly as the Mayor pulled up on his bicycle to attend the event.
Really cool! I'm glad you went out and represented. I don't know much about the mansion or the plans for it (only based off of what I've read on your site), but it'd be a cool way to revitalize the site.
ReplyDeleteDid they have discussions and such at the open-house, or is there an ongoing forum for such things?
No discussions that I was aware of, and no forums mentions thus far.. if you stumble on anything, please drop a line.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteOne of my professors, Genevieve Atwood, was one of the co-chairs for this event and has a hand in its transformation with Mayor Becker. She whispered to me in class a few days ago that she's pretty sure it's going to the bicyclists. Or at least the Collective. I'm so happy to hear about this.
P.S. I noticed the showers too and they were calling for West and East side bikers.
